“Beautiful Sunday” Public Concert Series

As an important cultural facility of Shenzhen, Shenzhen Concert Hall always gives priority to social benefits. While keeping the artistic taste, the Concert Hall regards popularization of music education and enhancement of people's music appreciation level as its targets and vigorously develops various kinds of low-price or free performance for the public, so as to let more citizens have opportunity to enjoy the elegant art.
Sponsored by Publicity Department of Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee and Bureau of Culture of Shenzhen Municipality; supported by Special Foundation for the Development of Shenzhen Publicizing and Cultural Undertakings; and undertook by the "Metropolis Channel" of Shenzhen TV Station, the "Cultural Starry Sky" column of Shenzhen Special Zone Daily, the "Cultural Square" column of Shenzhen Economic Daily, and Shenzhen Concert Hall, "Beautiful Sunday" is considered as a special project of public-benefit concert series.
Combining with its launching on 14th of Oct 2007, "Beautiful Sunday" presents free performance 3pm each Sunday at the Symphony Hall of Shenzhen Concert Hall.
The first-phrase project of "Beautiful Sunday", lasting 3 months, consisted of 12 performances, while the second-phrase has already launched earlier on 6th of April. It is comprised of music lectures, pipe organ recital, symphony concerts, and chamber music, etc.
"Beautiful Sunday Music lecture" invites experienced musicians, music pedagogues and music workers home and abroad to introduce music pieces to audiences, explain the stories behind them, and therefore to raise the interest of local citizens in music and help them explore the joy coming along with music. Using multimedia equipments, the audiences have the chance to embrace the music in a straightforward and emotional way.
Organ recital concert invites organ soloist and pedagogues of other musical instruments to perform in Shenzhen Concert Hall. Knowledge related to organ music, organ musicians and other instruments can also be obtained at the concert. Famous for its long history, big volume, wide diapason, and vigorous in power and grandeur while quiet within solemn and serene, pipe organ has become one of the most popular music instruments in the world of western religious music. Due to the high expense on it, there are only few places in China where we can find pipe organs. Accompanied with the opening of Shenzhen Concert Hall, the grand pipe organ has settled down in Shenzhen to provide local people with the opportunity of experiencing its charisma.
In order to draw more people to the world of classical music, Shenzhen Concert Hall regularly invites Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and other small-sized orchestras to present live symphony concerts on Sundays combining with explanation and lectures. Brief Introductions to symphonic works, musicians, background stories, and concert etiquettes will be given. Furthermore, vocal singing, as a popular performance form, complementally enriches the performances with various forms. The concert hall is no more a remote place from people's daily life, but just one step away from our threshold home.
Chamber concerts invite chamber orchestra of Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and other orchestras to stage at the concert hall. The programs widely cover string quartet, classical guitar, jazz, drum & percussion, and Chinese folk music, etc. Supplemented by explanation, the concerts let music lovers enjoy the music for fair and meanwhile enhance people's understanding for music, the passion for work, and the responsibility to the family as well as that to the society.
Beautiful Sunday opens the door to both citizens in Shenzhen and other music lovers wherever. Those interested can apply for tickets either via the webtiste (Chinese) or at the pointed locations.
